Top Models Make North American Car of the Year Short Lists

The 2013 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year Award short list has been released.  These lists of cars and trucks have been edited down from a long list of 45 vehicles that we detailed back in August.

Ford has the most vehicles on this year’s short list, with 3 combined. Nissan’s most innovated year ever is off to a great start, as they have two vehicles in the running.

Soon enough the jurors will edit this list down further to three finalists that will be announced at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2013.

Last year, not surprisingly, the jury selected the Hyundai Elantra as the 2012 North American Car of the Year.

The short list for North American Car of the Year includes:

– Ford Fusion

The Fusion will be designed in 2013, and it’s going to be a gorgeous car. The voters seem to like it, as it is making the grade. Stay tuned later this fall when we get the new Fusion in the showroom.

– The beautiful and well equipped Honda Accord:

The 2013 Honda Accord is an important game-changer for the brand. As we’ve outlined, it has a ton of standard features that are special on other models (backup camera, alloy wheels, and chrome door handles). The side mirror camera is the greatest tech feature since the backup cameras. A new CVT transmission made in Ohio allows for increase in fuel economy.

– The well designed Nissan Altima:

The Nissan Altima was the first model introduced in the Most Innovated Year Ever. With 38 mpg, great tech and new NASA inspired seats, this Altima should be considered one of the favorites.

– The safe and sporty Subaru BRZ:

The BRZ managed to combine smart and sporty into one incredible model that we cannot keep on the lot. Some are calling it the favorite as we narrow down to the short list. It is even a Top Safety Pick

The short list for the North American Truck/Utility of the Year include:

– Ford C-Max

Nissan Pathfinder

We haven’t seen a lot of the new Pathfinder, but Nissan has released the first photos.

– The spacious and eco-friendly Ford Escape:

The Escape was the featured vehicle at the Cleveland Auto Show, and when we saw it in person, it didn’t disappoint. The hands-free liftgate is incredible, you’ll get 33 mpg and the style takes your breath away. In the SUV class, we think this might be the favorite.

– And the game changing Hyundai Santa Fe:

The Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is a game changing SUV that combines comfort and drive-ability. It is redesigned for 2013, and we immediately fell in love.
