Ford Announces 1.5-Liter Ecoboost for 2014 Fusion

Ford‘s hugely successful lineup of Ecoboost engines has recently expanded.

Ford announced last week the 2014 Ford Fusion will come equipped with a 1.5-liter Ecoboost engine. Ecoboost technology aids in improving fuel efficiency by 20% and emissions of up to 15%.

The 2013 Ford Fusion is one of 6 Ford’s named ‘Best Car for the Money’.

According to Ford‘s press release, the 1.5-liter engine benefits from signature EcoBoost turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, and has been designed to be even more fuel efficient and offer high levels of refinement, quietness and performance.

The new engine is expected to provide similar horsepower and torque of the current 1.6-liter Ecoboost, with the benefit of improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.

Joe Bakaj, Vice President, powertrain engineering for Ford, says:

“The new 1.5-liter unit further extends our EcoBoost promise of economical driving in terms of both fuel efficiency and – in some markets – tax savings.”

Ford is hoping by the end of this year, nearly 80 percent of the company’s global nameplates will be available with fuel-saving Ecoboost technology.

In February of this year, Ford also announced manufacturing of the 2.0-liter Ecoboost engines was moving to Ohio.
