Apple Unveils iOS for Cars

Apple debuted an iOS for your car Monday, a technology that will featured in Nissan, Honda, Kia, and Hyundai models.

The new iOS will mirror what your iPhone can do on the screen in your car’s center console dash. During this announcement, Apple announced that when this technology is complete, your phone and car will communicate and you can:

  • Complete phone calls
  • Use Maps and directions
  • Send and receive iMessages using your vehicle’s screen or eyes and hands-free using Siri

In other words, Siri will read iMessages aloud, and you tell her what to say, and she’ll reply to the text message.

Apple says 95 percent of new vehicles sold today are able to handle music and playback controls.

Many of our top models are already on board to integrate iOS in their cars by the year 2014, or 2015 vehicle models. This includes Nissan, Honda, Kia, and Hyundai. No specific models or further details have been announced by any manufacturer.
