Review: 2014 Honda Odyssey

2014 Honda Odyssey

The updated 2014 Honda Odyssey has great new special features and great technology

The updated 2014 Honda Odyssey has hit the Waikem Honda showroom. With its genius features, updated styling and improved fuel economy, the Odyssey is still the ultimate family vehicle.

When you talk about what’s new, you have to start with HondaVac, the vacuum cleaner built right into the van. It seems so obvious now, but it did take until 2014 for someone to think of it. The vacuum is installed in cargo area, and features a long hose and two attachments. We know your kids are messy and sometimes there’s a spill in the second or third row. Now with the HondaVac you’ll be able to sweep out the van on the go. We love the HondaVac and think it’s a true game changer. It comes standard on the Elite Touring model.

There are five trim levels on the new Odyssey, including the new fully-loaded Odyssey Touring Elite trim.

As you go through each new trim, there are a lot of new features. All Odysseys will now have standard Bluetooth, Pandora and SMS text functions. The Odyssey has an expanded view driver’s mirror, which keeps everyone safer. Other new features on the 2014 Honda Odyssey include Forward Collision Warning and Land Departure Warning. We know there is precious cargo in your Odyssey, so Honda wants to keep you safe.

With the new Forward Collision Warning, the van will alert and even help you prevent that head-on collision. If you’re on the highway and someone is in your blindspot, new Lane Departure Warning System will alert you of that car in your blindspot and prevents any potential collisions.

Also in the name of safety, the Odyssey features next generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure.  The reinforced frontal structure improves frontal crash energy management through a wider range of offset and oblique collision modes. Honda says they anticipate the 2014 Honda Odyssey to earn a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The new Odyssey will even be more fuel efficient, now earning a fuel economy rating of 19/28, 1 MPG better than last year’s model.

2014 Honda Odyssey Rear Entertainment System

We tested the Honda Odyssey Touring Elite model, and you could almost live in that car with all the specials features. You get it all in the Touring Elite model. Along with the vacuum cleaner, it had a sunroof, backup camera, navigation, bluetooth, and heated leather seats. What really caught our attention was the huge rear entertainment system.

This 16.2-inch screen features split screen capabilities. So if the kids want to watch two different shows, they can on this new rear DVD system. There is also the choice between DVD or HDMI, so they can even watch their favorite Netflix or Hulu show. Basically, this Rear Entertainment System means you’ll have the most peaceful road trip of all time.

Up to 8 can fit inside the 2014 Odyssey. It comes in two new colors, Modern Steel Metallic and Obsidian Blue Pearl.

We didn’t think it was possible, but Honda has improved the already near-perfect 2014 Honda Odyssey. This is perfect family van that was built to create a lifetime of family memories. Visit Waikem Honda in Massillon, Ohio, and bring the entire family to the dealership and see how every member of the family will fall in love with the Odyssey.
