Consumer Reports says the Ford F Series are among the Most American Vehicles on a market.
But the first question is: What Makes A Car the “Most American?” Well Consumer Reports used a program called the “Kogod Made in America Auto Index.” It was created by Frank DuBois, a global supply chain management expert and professor at American University. The list is based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, plus the location of the headquarters, design, research and development and where the profits are going.
Using that list, the Ford F-Series was tied for second most American made vehicle. The F-Series includes popular models such as the Ford F-150, F-250 and F-350. The F-Series gets a total score of 87.5, just slightly out of the No. 1 Spot. But in general, Ford trucks are the most American Trucks. The Dodge Ram and Chevy Silverado scores just 83.5 points total.
According to Consumer Reports, the window sticker will provide a lot of the answers. Each New Car Window Stickers includes a section called “Parts Content Information,” which comes with the build details. The challenge with this, according to DuBois, is that it includes parts assembled in the United States and Canada. So while the NHTSA is more “North American,” the Kogod list is more “American” based.
Consumer Reports readers say they want to buy an American made cars. More than 75 percent of those surveyed said they would like to buy local, and 78 percent would pay more to buy an American Car.
