In 2013 Ford sold 14,086 Police Interceptors based on the fourth-generation Explorer, up 140% from last year. Ford offers two interceptors, the SUV and the Taurus-based sedan.

The SUV makes up 60% of Ford police vehicles sold. According to Polk data, Ford’s interceptors make up nearly half of all police vehicles sold in 2013.

The Interceptor sedan, thanks to a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, can go from 0-100 mph in just 14.2 seconds. This is the third straight year the Police Interceptor has won the speed testing by the Los Angeles Sheriff Department at the the speedway in Fontana, California.

The SUV posted a 0-100 mph time of 18.3 second.

Arie Groeneveld, Ford chief engineer, says:

“In pursuit driving conditions, being able to put down 365 horsepower is best accomplished using our intelligent all-wheel-drive system — which optimizes handling and traction in all driving conditions, including dry-pavement surfaces — as demonstrated in LASD testing”

The Massillon Police Department recently acquired a new Police Interceptor Sedan from our very own George Waikem Ford showroom.
