Review: 2014 Ford Edge

The 2014 Ford Edge is Ford’s entry into the five seater crossover utility vehicle segment. The Edge features great options with a variety of engines and drivetrains.


Engines and Mechanics

The standard engine found in the Edge is Ford’s tried and true 3.5 liter six cylinder engine. This engine can be had with front wheel drive or optionally paired with an all-wheel drive system. If you are interested in saving fuel you can opt for the 2.0L ecoboost engine. This engine is only available in front wheel drive format but it makes up for by offering 21 mpg city, 30 highway, with 24 mpg combined. For the performance enthusiast you can opt for the Sport model with the 3.7 liter cyclone engine. This engine is rated for 285 horsepower and can be had with front wheel drive or all-wheel drive.



The Ford Edge offers similar styling found in the rest of Ford’s SUV lineup. Featuring large chrome grille upfront and a rounded sloping tailgate. The Ford Edge is available with a variety of wheel options. The standard wheels are 17 inch alloys, however those who opt for the sport model with receive massive 22 inch alloy wheels, with 18 inch and 20 inch wheels available as well. The interior of the Edge can be had with cloth or leather seats. The inside has ergonomics in mind with mock aluminum dash accents. The Edge has plenty of room for five full sized adults with 140.6 cubic feet of passenger space and offers a whopping 32.2 cubic feet of cargo volume with the seats in place.



The Edge includes all the expected safety features like anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, front seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. A rearview camera is available for SEL models, and standard on limited and sport models. Safety options include blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alerts, forward collision warning system, and rear parking sensors.


Technology and Options

The Edge can be had with a variety of technology and luxury options. The Edge has the optional SYNC with MyFord touch. This system combines hands-free calling, cell phone pairing, satellite radio, bluetooth audio streaming, SYNC apps, and 911 emergency assistance. You can also opt for MyFord navigation which adds voice controlled navigation to SYNC. The 2014 Edge also has available comfort options with heated mirrors, duel-zone automatic climate control, power drivers seat, heated leather seats, and power liftgate.
