Review: 2015 Ford Explorer

The 2015 Ford Explorer have just started to roll off the transport and onto our showroom floor. This large crossover offers all the features you could ever want, and third row seating for the kids. Let’s take a look at the 2015 Ford Explorer

Engine and Mechanical

The 2015 Explorer can be had with a variety of engine options. The 3.5L V6 is standard and can be had in front wheel drive or four wheel drive. This engine is pared to Ford’s 6-speed selectshift automatic transmission. If you are looking for fuel savings you can opt for the Ford’s four cylinder ecoboost engine. With this engine the Explorer achieves 20 MPG city and 28 MPG highway. If you are looking for a little extra oomph you can opt for the 3.5L twin-turbo borrowed from the Ford Taurus Sho. This engine produces 365 horsepower and 350 foot pounds of torque. Optional intelligent four-wheel drive can make all the difference when the going gets tough. This 4WD is paired to Ford’s terrain Manage System which allows you to edit the differential settings depending what kind of surface you are driving over. All engines comes with an optional class III tow hitch. Both 3.5L engines have a max loaded trailer weight of 5000 pounds and the 2.0L has a max loaded trailer weight of 2000 pounds.



The 2015 Ford Explorer keeps it’s existing sheet metal from 2014. The Explorer features a similar grille to those found on the Taurus and the Fusion. The Explorer comes standard with 18 inch aluminum wheels. New for 2015 is the added appearance package. This package offers 20 inch machined aluminum wheels, contrasting magnetic metallic accents, and Miko suede inserts in the seats. On the inside the Explorer features a upscale feel with soft touch materials. The controls are laid out with ergonomics in mind. You also have a choice of seating in the Explorer with seven seats being stanard. However, you can opt for four captains chairs reducing the seating down to six.



The Explorer features an excellent array of safety features like side certain airbags for all three rows, passenger knee airbag, and inflatable seat belts. You can also opt for Ford’s driver assist package with includes lane-keeping system, BLIS cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruse control, collision warning, hill descent control, automatic HID headlamps, and rear view camera.


Technology and Options

The Ford Explorer features all the tech items you would expect to find in a well equipped crossover. The Explorer includes the newest version of SYNC with MyFord touch. This system features hands free phone, satellite radio, USB media input, memory card slot, and MyFord Apps. The Ford Explorer also features optional comfort options like heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, power and memory seat, and universal remote for your garage door or security system.
