The Ford Motor Co. this week gave us a little more detail into the all-new 2015 Ford F-150s. A new standard V6 engine and all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost will be among four choices under the hood when the all-new F-150 hits the dealership.
The all-new standard 3.5 liter V-6 engine will produce 283 horsepower from twin independent variable camshaft timing. A towing capacity of 7,600, 1,910 pounds of payload and 255-lb ft. torque are some of the other details from Ford’s release.
Also new under hood comes a 2.7-liter EcoBoost, with standard Auto Start-Stop. Ford says the new engine “broadens the engine lineup by providing a mid-range V-8 like towing capacity of 8,500 pounds.”
Payload comes in a 2,250 pounds, 325 horsepower and 375-lb-ft of torque.
Auto Start-Stop technology for the F-150 is another major addition worth mentioning. This technology, specially tuned for truck customers, shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at a stop. When the brake is released, the engine restarts quickly. Auto Start-Stop helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions when the truck is stopped and the engine is off. The technology is off when towing or in four-wheel-drive mode.
Fuel economy hasn’t been announced yet.
The Ford F-150 may be the most exciting vehicle to hit the dealership this year. It was completely redesigned inside and out, using high-strength steel and high-strength military-grade aluminum to reduce 700 pounds from this year’s model. This allows for better economy, towing and performance.
