The website has chosen this vehicle for its big redesign, new technology and use of high-strength aluminum. It will be competing against five other vehicles and the winner will be announced at the North American International Auto Show in January, 2015.
Cars.com says, “the big news about this redesign is that it is the first mass-produced pickup to use high strength aluminum for all the body panels and bed construction.”
With the new material there is a significant change in overall weight of the vehicle but it also drives and sounds different. A reduction in weight has allowed Ford to create an EcoBoost engine that has better fuel economy while still keeping towing and payload standards.
Inside has an improved interior with more storage, a packed information center, luxury work-truck features and optional 360 camera. And Ford didn’t just stop with packing the interior, they also added more storage options and a few segment-first conveniences with LED lighting in the bed.
Also being offered in the new models is three different V-6 engines; a naturally aspirated one and two twin turbo options.
“This is an impressive new truck in a highly competitive segment,” says cars.com.
