The Ford Motor Co. has teamed with Coca-Cola to build a Ford Fusion Engeri model with Coca-Cola’s PlantBottle Technology. Basically, this car’s seat cushions, seat backs, head restraints and door panel and headliners are made entirely from renewable materials.
This Ford Fusion Engeri research vehicle is the first to use PET plastics in the fabric of a vehicle. PET is a durable, lightweight plastic also known as polyethylene terephthalate. It’s used by both Ford and Coke in a variety of products including plastic bottles, fabrics and carpets. According to Coca-Cola and Ford, PlantBottle Technology is a plastic bottle made from plants, and more than 400,000 barrels of oil have been saved thanks to this technology.
Ford says if PlantBottle fabrics were used in the majority of Ford models, it would save 295,000 gallons of gasoline and 6,000 barrels of oils.
