Review: 2013 Ford C-Max The New King of the Hybrids

It’s been too long since a legit competitor has emerged in the hybrid market. That’s not the case anymore thanks to the new 2013 Ford C-MAX

The 2013 Ford C-Max is brand new Hybrid model from Ford. Finally we have a competitor that tops the Toyota Prius. The C-Max is the most stylish Hybrid on the market, and as special features go, you’ll get them all when you choose the C-Max.

The best feature? Up to 47 mpgs.

As we said, the Ford C-Max is a brand new five passenger vehicle from Ford.  The Hybrid C-Max comes in two available trims, SE and SEL. The SEL has all the special features of the top of line luxury vehicle.

QUIET RIDE

In our test drive of the 2013 Ford C-Max, we were hooked. When you turn the key, the C-Max even sounds like an electric vehicle. There is no sound when get it started, but a message pops up saying “Ready to Drive.”

Put it in drive and it still doesn’t make a sound. The Ford C-Max is a smooth riding vehicle. The C-Max has  a 2.0L I-4 Atkinson engine with an electric motor to generate a projected 188 total system horsepower, delivering the responsive power you want when you need it. The motor is  teamed with an advanced high-voltage lithium-ion battery

A new electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) built and engineered by Ford helps the C-Max get up  to 47 MPG!

The regenerative braking system helps the MPG and once you get to use to it, you’ll love the C-Max.

Did we mention how quiet it was? We had the C-Max in park to take some pictures, and it was honestly so quiet that we forgot the engine was on.

STYLE

The C-Max finally proves that  a Hybrid model can be stylish. Ford took cues from its most popular models – Focus, Fusion and Escape, to style the C-Max with thin, swooping headlights and a trapezoid styled grille. You also get 17-inched machined alloy wheels, the same as some sports car.

The inside is also very stylish with available leather seats, and the touch screen dash similar to Ford’s other models.

FEATURES

The C-Max has available features that rival even the best luxury model. We tested the top of the line SEL trim, and you get all when you choose the C-Max.

Our C-Max had heated power leather seats, a sunroof that stretched from front to back, backup camera, satellite radio, leather steering wheel, and push button ignition. Push button ignition makes the key a thing of the past, just push the button and the C-Max quietly starts.

All come with the Ford MyTouch system.

All C-Max models feature Next-Generation SmartGauge with EcoGuide. The dual-LCD next-generation SmartGauge with EcoGuide is an innovative cluster that provides real-time information to help you get the most efficiency from your C-MAX Hybrid or C-MAX Energi. Efficiency Coach screens such as Brake Coach help you maximize your vehicle’s efficiency. Screens include Inform, Enlighten, Engage or Empower, and explain your options within each. Five-way steering wheel-mounted controls make it all easy. The gauge can indicate instant fuel economy, fuel economy history, odometer, engine coolant temperature, plus trip data including fuel economy, time-elapsed fuel economy and miles to empty. Watch the display grow leaves when you drive efficiently. Or watch them fade when you don’t. This green motivator works in any of the four display modes. You may also access your MyFord Touch® screens using the next-generation SmartGauge.

Another great new feature is an innovated storage system in the back seat under the second row. You can now store and locks smaller features in that compartment and save room in the glove box.

The C-Max comes in 8 exterior colors

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

Edmunds

“The 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid is an interesting alternative to compact crossovers, wagons, minivans and hybrids. Its fuel economy and refined driving manners make it especially appealing.”

Their pros include: Superb gas mileage; stylish and well-made interior; refined ride; responsive handling; quick acceleration; abundant features list; elevated driving position.

Car and Driver

“Our first dry run reinforced the notion that, much like its platform-mate, the C-Max can be fun to drive. It proved powerful enough to do 0 to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds, which only seems slow until you commit the same crime in one of  the Toyotas.”

Autoblog:

“The new 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid is very good – better than the Prius V in many ways – and buyers will recognize that if they’re truly shopping. Its cabin is comfortable and roomy, and the five-passenger configuration offers plenty of utility. The 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain is seamless in operation and delivers very impressive fuel economy in all driving cycles. Most important, the system develops sufficient power to make driving mildly engaging and enjoyable – that’s a sentiment we don’t often feel while behind the wheel of a Prius.”

We feel the same as the reviewers – the Ford C-Max beats the Toyota Prius. We love this vehicle and really think the other Hybrids have been dethroned. When you are ready to test one for yourself, call 330-478-0281.
